Udupi District-Level Bocchi Competition Inaugurated at Manasa School Pamboor
- Encouragement Essential for Specially-Abled Children: Shyamala C.K.
Udupi: “Children with special needs have brought glory to the nation through their remarkable achievements despite physical challenges. It is the responsibility of every individual to instill confidence and mental strength in them,” said Shyamala C.K., Deputy Director, Department of Women and Child Development.

She was speaking after inaugurating the Udupi district-level Bocchi competition held on Saturday at Manasa Rehabilitation and Training Centre, Pamboor. The event was jointly organised by the Department of Women and Child Welfare, Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities and Senior Citizens, Lions Club Bantakal Jasmine, and Manasa Centre as part of World Disabled Day celebrations.

Shyamala C.K. added that instead of showing sympathy, providing opportunities helps specially-abled individuals showcase their true capabilities. The government is extending support for the development of special children, she said. Continuous encouragement and opportunities in fields of their interest will help these children excel. She also mentioned that the Zilla Panchayat is considering establishing a special park for children with autism in the district.

District Empowerment Officer for Persons with Disabilities, Ratna, said that when specially-abled children are encouraged to participate in sports and other activities like regular children, it boosts their self-confidence and helps prove that they are no less capable.

Lions District 317C representative N.M. Hegde and Belle Panchayat President Divya V. Acharya conveyed their best wishes.
Lions Club Bantakal Jasmine President Juliana Rita Monis, Manasa Principal Sister Vinni Gonsalves, Secretary Mary D’Souza, Treasurer Joseph F. Noronha, Trustees Dr. Edward Lobo, Henry Menezes and others were present.

Manasa Trust President John Martis welcomed the gathering, Secretary Dr. Gerald Pinto delivered the vote of thanks, and Hemalatha compered the programme.
